Skye and the Good Troll on the Windy Bridge

Skye and the Good Troll on the Windy Bridge

✨ Story Summary

The children travel to a windy mountain bridge where they meet Grumble, a kind four-armed troll who helps them save animals from a storm.

Skye was lying on the soft grass in the garden. Her eyes looked up at the white clouds. Ziggy was jumping around her. Lily was picking little flowers. Dash was running in circles.

"Look!" said Skye. She pointed at a cloud. "That one looks like a bunny!"

"And that one is a big fish!" shouted Ziggy, jumping high.

Lily put a flower in her hair. "This cloud is a butterfly!"

Dash stopped running. He heard something. "Shhh... Listen!"

CHUFF CHUFF! TOOT TOOT!

The magic train rolled into the garden! It was red and blue and sparkled in the sun.

"Hello friends, both big and small! Today we'll cross a bridge so tall! Where wind blows strong and mountains sing, hop aboard for something exciting!"

"Toby the Magic Train!" all four children shouted together.

They climbed onto the soft seats. The train went WHOOOOSH and started moving. The garden disappeared. Big mountains appeared all around them.

The train stopped at the bottom of a very high mountain. In front of them was a long wooden bridge. It went across a deep canyon. The wind was blowing hard. WHOOOOO went the wind.

"That bridge is so high!" said Skye, holding onto the train.

"And it's moving!" added Lily, watching the bridge sway.

Ziggy pointed ahead. "Someone is on the bridge!"

In the middle of the bridge stood a big creature. It had green skin and orange hair that stuck up like grass. It had two big eyes, one yellow and one blue. It had four arms - two were long and two were short. It had two legs with big feet. No tail. Its teeth were white and square like little blocks.

The creature was crying. Big tears rolled down its green cheeks.

"Why is it crying?" asked Dash.

Skye stepped forward first. "Let's go see. Maybe it needs help."

They walked onto the bridge. The wind pushed them. WHOOOOO! The bridge moved under their feet. It was scary!

"Hold hands!" said Lily. They made a chain. Skye in front, then Lily, then Dash, then Ziggy.

Step by step they moved forward. The bridge swayed left. Then right. Then left again.

When they got closer, the creature saw them. It stopped crying.

"Hello," said Skye in her quiet voice. "I'm Skye. Why are you sad?"

The creature sniffled. "I'm Grumble. I'm not a bad troll. But everyone thinks I am! They run away when they see me on this bridge."

"You don't look bad," said Lily. "You look nice!"

Grumble's yellow eye and blue eye both got wide. "Really? But I live under a bridge. All bridge trolls are supposed to be mean. That's what everyone says."

"Not all trolls have to be mean," said Ziggy, being brave.

"What do you like to do?" asked Dash.

Grumble used his four arms to wipe his tears. "I... I like to help people cross the bridge when it's windy. I hold the ropes steady. But everyone runs away before I can help!"

Suddenly, the wind blew harder than before. WHOOOOOSH! The bridge tilted!

"AHHH!" shouted all the children.

Grumble quickly used all four arms. Two arms grabbed the rope on the left. Two arms grabbed the rope on the right. He pulled tight. The bridge stopped moving so much.

"See?" said Grumble. "I can help!"

"You saved us!" said Skye, smiling.

But then they heard a voice. "HELP! HELP!"

On the other side of the bridge, a little rabbit was stuck. Its foot was caught between two wooden boards. The wind was scaring it.

"We need to help!" said Lily.

"But the bridge is too shaky," said Dash, worried.

Grumble stood tall. "I have an idea! I'll hold the bridge steady with my four arms. You children are small and light. You can walk across safely and help the rabbit!"

"But won't your arms get tired?" asked Skye.

"I'm very strong," said Grumble. "This is what I'm good at!"

Grumble spread his four arms wide. He held all the ropes. The bridge became much steadier.

"Let's go!" said Ziggy, always ready for action.

The four friends walked across the bridge. It barely moved now. Grumble was doing a great job!

When they reached the rabbit, Lily gently lifted the wooden board. Skye carefully pulled the rabbit's foot out. Dash petted its head to calm it down. Ziggy found some grass for it to eat.

"Thank you!" squeaked the rabbit. "And thank you, Grumble! I saw how you held the bridge. You're so kind!"

Grumble's green face turned a little pink. He was blushing!

But then the wind got even stronger! WHOOOOOOSH! Dark clouds came over the mountain.

"A storm is coming!" shouted the rabbit. "Everyone in the valley needs to cross this bridge to get home safely! But they're all afraid of the troll!"

Skye had an idea. "We can help! Grumble, you hold the bridge. We'll tell everyone you're nice!"

The children ran down to the valley. They saw many animals - sheep, goats, and even a family of bears.

"Come quick!" shouted Lily. "The storm is coming!"

"But there's a troll on the bridge!" said a sheep.

"Grumble is a good troll!" said Dash. "He helps people!"

"He's holding the bridge steady right now!" added Ziggy.

The animals didn't believe them at first. But Skye spoke in her calm, quiet voice. "Please trust us. Grumble is our friend. He wants to help."

One brave goat decided to try. It walked onto the bridge. Grumble held it perfectly steady. The goat crossed safely!

"It's true!" bleated the goat. "The troll helped me!"

Soon all the animals were crossing. Grumble held the bridge with his strong arms. Not one animal fell or got scared.

"Thank you, Grumble!" they all said.

"You're a hero!" said the biggest bear.

Grumble was so happy! No more tears. Just a big smile showing his square white teeth.

When everyone was safe, the storm passed. The sun came out again. A beautiful rainbow appeared over the bridge.

"You did it, Grumble!" said Skye, giving him a hug around one of his big legs.

"No," said Grumble. "WE did it! You believed in me when no one else would."

"Friends help friends," said Lily.

"And now everyone knows you're good!" added Dash.

CHUFF CHUFF! Toby the Magic Train appeared.

"Well done, children, brave and true! You saw the good that others couldn't view! A friend in need is a friend indeed, hop on board, you did a very good deed!"

The children waved goodbye to Grumble. He waved back with all four arms!

"Come visit again!" called Grumble. "I'll always keep the bridge safe for you!"

As the train carried them home, Skye felt sleepy. It had been a big adventure. She closed her eyes and smiled, thinking about their new friend.

The train stopped in the garden. Everything was just as they left it. The flowers, the grass, even the clouds were still there.

"That was amazing!" said Ziggy.

"Grumble was so nice," said Lily.

"And strong!" added Dash.

Skye yawned. "Sometimes people think someone is mean or scary just because they look different or live in a different place. But if we take time to know them, we might find a good friend. Grumble taught us that being kind and helping others is what really matters, not how we look or where we live."

The four friends nodded. They had learned something important today.

Just then, Jack came outside. "Skye! Time for dinner!"

Skye ran to her daddy and he picked her up. She was already getting sleepy in his arms.

"Did you have fun playing?" asked Jack.

"We made a new friend," said Skye softly. "A very good friend."

The End.

Remember, children: Don't judge others by how they look or where they come from. Take time to know them. You might find a wonderful friend! Being kind and helpful is what makes someone good, not their appearance. And when we work together and believe in each other, we can help someone feel happy and loved.
