Fringhetto and the Rainbow Nest

Fringhetto and the Rainbow Nest

✨ Story Summary

The children travel by magic train to a cliff where seagulls and finches are fighting. They help the birds build a new nest together, teaching them to cooperate despite their differences.

The rain was beating on the windows of Ale's house with a sweet sound, like many little fingers knocking to come in. Ale, Viola, Eletta, and Lori were sitting on the living room carpet, all together around a big basin full of soapy water. Each one had a straw in hand and was blowing to make bubbles.

"Look at mine!" shouted Ale, jumping to his feet. A bubble as big as an orange flew toward the ceiling.

"Mine is bigger!" said Viola with her blue eyes sparkling. She was stubborn and never wanted to lose.

Eletta was blowing calmly, creating many small bubbles that danced together. She was so peaceful that she seemed to make magic without even trying.

Lori ran after a bubble, super fast as always, trying to catch it before it popped. "Got it!" he yelled, but the bubble popped on his nose. Everyone laughed.

Grace, Ale's mom, watched them from the kitchen, smiling. "Be careful not to spill the water on the carpet, little ones."

At that moment, a familiar sound came from outside.

"CHUFF CHUFF!"

The four children looked at each other with wide eyes.

"The little train!" they all shouted together.

They ran to the window. Despite the rain, Toby the Magic Train had appeared in the garden. He was red and blue, with golden wheels that sparkled even under the gray sky. Pink smoke that smelled like strawberries came out of his chimney.

The children rushed outside, followed by Ale's four cats. Sofia, the black kitten, meowed worriedly seeing the rain. Dora, the brave tabby, ran ahead without fear. Poldo, nice and chubby, walked slowly trying not to get too wet. Milo instead jumped with an elegant leap right onto the train.

Toby the Magic Train whistled and sang:

"Hello children, what a lovely day to travel, to the cliff I want to take you! Where the wind blows strong and the sea sings, and a new friend brings you joy!"

"A cliff?" asked Eletta with a curious voice.

"What's a cliff?" asked Lori scratching his head.

Ale, who had seen the photos in his dad Max's book, explained: "It's like a mountain near the sea! It's made of tall rocks, and below there are waves that go splash!"

"Let's go!" said Viola decisively, climbing onto the train first.

Everyone climbed aboard, including the four cats. Toby the Magic Train left quickly, passing through a tunnel of colored clouds. The rain disappeared, and suddenly they found themselves in a wonderful place.

In front of them was a great cliff of gray and white rocks. The sea below was deep blue, and the waves made a beautiful sound: SHHHH, SHHHH. But the strangest thing was the mist. A light mist wrapped around everything, and when the sun's rays touched it, it became colorful like a rainbow!

"How beautiful!" exclaimed Ale, jumping down from the train.

"It looks like a dream," whispered Eletta.

Hundreds of seagulls were flying above their heads. Seagulls are white and gray birds, with yellow beaks, that live near the sea and make a loud cry: "GAAA GAAA!"

The children walked along a path of pebbles. The cats followed them: Dora in front, always brave, Sofia close to Ale, Poldo panting a bit from the effort, and Milo jumping from one rock to another.

Suddenly, they heard a beautiful song. It was a cheerful little voice going: "Trii-triii-triiiii!"

On a branch of a bush was a small bird, with brown feathers and orange on its chest. It hopped happily and sang without stopping.

"What a cute little bird!" said Viola.

The bird flew toward them and landed on a rock. "Good morning, little travelers! I'm Finchy, the festive finch!"

A finch is a small bird that sings beautifully. It has colorful feathers and a short beak. When it's happy, it sings beautiful melodies.

Finchy was cheerful like the sun. He always smiled, his feathers sparkled, and he smelled of honey. Around his neck he wore a small golden feather, his most precious treasure.

"What a beautiful melody you were singing!" said the bird looking toward the sea.

Ale scratched his head. "What's a melody?"

Finchy hopped happily. "A melody is when many musical notes stay together and form a song! Like when you hum a little tune, that's a melody!"

"Ah, I understand!" said Ale smiling. "Like the lullaby that mommy Grace sings to me!"

"Exactly!" chirped Finchy.

But suddenly, the bird stopped singing. His little eyes became sad.

"Why are you sad?" asked Eletta coming closer.

Finchy sighed. "Do you see that big rock over there?" He pointed with his wing to an enormous rock near the sea. "That was the Singing Rock. All the birds of the cliff would gather there to sing together. But yesterday something bad happened."

"What?" asked Lori, worried.

"The seagulls were playing chase, and one of them, without meaning to, pushed down the big nest where we all sat to sing. The nest fell into the sea and broke. Now the seagulls and us finches don't talk to each other anymore. The seagulls are sorry but they're afraid to apologize. And us finches are angry."

Viola crossed her arms. "But if they didn't do it on purpose, why are you angry?"

Finchy lowered his little head. "Because that nest was special. We had built it all together, a long time ago."

Ale looked at his friends. "We have to help them!"

At that moment, a strong wind blew on the cliff. The rainbow mist became denser. The seagulls flew in circles, and their sad cries could be heard: "GAAA GAAA!"

"Come," said Finchy, "I'll take you to the seagulls."

They walked along the cliff. The path was narrow and the rocks were slippery. Poldo meowed nervously, and Ale picked him up to help him. Sofia walked close to Eletta, as if to protect her. Dora went ahead bravely, checking that the path was safe. Milo jumped light as a feather.

They arrived at the Singing Rock. It was as big as a house! And there, perched sadly, were many seagulls. They were all silent.

A big seagull, with a gray spot on his wing, came forward. "I'm Biggull. Are you the children from the magic train?"

"Yes!" said Ale. "We came to help you!"

Biggull lowered his head. "I broke the nest. I didn't mean to. I was playing and didn't watch where I was going. I'm so sorry."

Finchy flew next to him. "I know you didn't do it on purpose. But now where will we all sing together?"

Silence fell on the cliff. The waves continued to go SHHHH, SHHHH. The rainbow mist sparkled, but no one was smiling.

Viola, with her strong character, spoke: "Let's build a new nest! A bigger one!"

"But we don't know how," said a small seagull. "Seagulls build nests one way. Finches another way. We've never been good at working together."

Lori ran toward a pile of twigs. "I'm super fast! I can carry the twigs!"

Eletta gathered some soft leaves. "These can be the cushion."

Ale jumped on a rock. "Me and my cats can find the most beautiful things!"

Sofia meowed and found some white feathers. Dora dragged a piece of green moss. Poldo sat on a big leaf, making everyone notice it. Milo jumped high and pulled off some very long blades of grass.

But then a problem started. The seagulls wanted to build the nest one way. The finches another way. And everyone was arguing!

"The feathers go underneath!" said Biggull.

"No, they go on top!" protested Finchy.

"The twigs have to be big!"

"No, small!"

Ale put his hands over his ears. Viola stomped her foot, angry at all that noise. Eletta had sat down tired on a rock. Lori ran here and there not knowing what to do.

The rainbow mist started to turn gray. It seemed that even the weather was sad.

"ENOUGH!" shouted Ale with all the voice he had.

Everyone stopped. The seagulls. The finches. Even the wind seemed to calm down.

Ale breathed hard. "If you keep arguing, you'll never build the nest! You have to work together! Everyone can do a little piece!"

Viola nodded. "Ale is right. The seagulls can put the big twigs underneath. The finches can put the small ones on top."

Eletta smiled sweetly. "And the feathers and moss can go in the middle, so it's comfortable for everyone."

Lori jumped happily. "And I'll carry everything super fast!"

Finchy looked at Biggull. Biggull looked at Finchy.

"Shall we try?" asked the finch.

"Let's try," answered the seagull.

And so, all together, they started building. The seagulls carried the big twigs flying high. The finches wove the small ones while singing. The children passed the leaves, the moss, the feathers. The cats helped as they could: Sofia purred to encourage everyone, Dora held the twigs still, Poldo warmed the moss with his big body, and Milo jumped around carrying materials where they were needed.

The nest grew. It became bigger and bigger. And the most beautiful thing was that it had room for everyone: spots for the big seagulls, spots for the small finches, and a special spot in the center where they could be together.

When they finished, the rainbow mist sparkled very brightly. The colors danced in the air: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple!

Finchy hopped on his golden feather and began to sing his most beautiful melody. One by one, all the finches joined in. And then, surprising everyone, the seagulls also started to sing with their "GAAA GAAA," which together with the finches' song created a new and beautiful music.

Biggull approached Finchy. "Thank you for forgiving me."

Finchy smiled. "Thank you for helping build something even more beautiful."

Ale, Viola, Eletta, and Lori hugged each other. The cats cuddled at their feet.

"CHUFF CHUFF!"

Toby the Magic Train arrived on the cliff, with his fragrant pink smoke.

Finchy flew toward the children. "Thank you, friends! You did something magnificent! You taught us that when you make room for others, everything becomes more beautiful!"

The children climbed onto the train, waving with their hands. All the birds sang for them.

Toby the Magic Train whistled and said:

"What a beautiful adventure you lived today, building together under the rosy rays! When you make room for those who are different, the world becomes a clearer, brighter place!"

The train left, passing through the tunnel of clouds again. When they arrived at Ale's house, the rain had stopped. A real rainbow sparkled in the sky.

Max, Ale's dad, was waiting for them with a calm smile. "How did it go, adventurers?"

Ale ran to hug mommy Grace. "Mommy, we built a giant nest!"

And while they told their adventure, the four cats curled up on the couch, tired but happy.

**The moral of this story is:** There's always room for one more. When we make room for others and accept that everyone is different, we can build something more beautiful together. It doesn't matter if we're big like seagulls or small like finches: working as a team, we can all do our part.
