Dash and the Sled Race in the Christmas Park
📅 Published on January 9, 2026
✨ Story Summary
The children travel to a snowy park where they participate in a Christmas sledding race, learning that doing your best and having fun matters more than winning.
It was a December morning and it was raining. The drops were beating on the window panes and many shiny puddles were forming in the street. Lori was looking out the window together with Ale, Viola, and Eletta. The four friends were at Lori's house and were building a Christmas village with cardboard houses.
"Look, I made Santa's house!" said Viola, showing a little house all red.
"And I made the toy factory!" added Eletta with her sweet voice.
Ale was hopping happily around the village. "And I put up the giant Christmas tree!"
Lori instead seemed a bit thoughtful. He was coloring a little house but wasn't saying anything.
"What's wrong, Lori?" asked Ale, stopping his jumping.
"Nothing... it's just that I'd really like to play outside in the snow, but outside there's only rain," replied Lori with a sigh.
Right at that moment, a special sound filled the room: "CHUFF CHUFF!"
The four friends turned around suddenly. In front of them, right in the middle of the living room, was Toby the Magic Train! His carriages sparkled with red and green lights like Christmas decorations.
"Greetings to you, my little friends, climb aboard for adventures and joys I intend!" said Toby the Magic Train with his cheerful voice.
"Toby!" they all shouted together, jumping up and down.
"Where are you taking us today?" asked Viola with her blue eyes sparkling.
"To a place where winter has arrived, where white snow has covered everything far and wide!" replied Toby, making his wheels jingle.
The four friends quickly climbed into the colorful carriages. Christina, Lori's mom, came to say goodbye: "Have lots of fun! And Lori, be careful!"
"Yes, Mom!" replied Lori, smiling.
The little train departed with another "CHUFF CHUFF!" and in an instant passed through a shining cloud. When they came out, the children's eyes widened in wonder.
They weren't looking at the rain from the window anymore. They were in the park near their home, but it was completely transformed! Everything was covered in soft white snow. The trees had branches full of icicles that sparkled like diamonds. There were Christmas decorations everywhere: colored lights hanging from branches, golden stars, and even snowmen with red hats.
"Wow!" exclaimed Eletta.
"It's beautiful!" said Viola.
In the park, there were many other children playing. Some were having snowball fights, others were building snowmen. But the most beautiful thing was a big hill full of snow where many children were going down with sleds.
"Look! The sleds!" shouted Lori, all excited.
Just as they were getting off the train, a very strange creature approached. It was a penguin, but not a normal penguin. It was all shocking pink with golden dots on its belly. It walked swaying from side to side and every now and then did a complete spin. It wore a red Santa hat that was too big for him, covering one eye.
"Hello children! I'm Geoffrey the penguin!" said the creature with a cheerful voice. "Welcome to the Great Christmas Sledding Race! I'm the organizer of this magnificent competition!"
The children looked at each other curiously.
"What does competition mean?" asked Viola.
Geoffrey did another spin. "Ah, good question! Competition means a race where everyone participates to see who's best. Like when you run together to see who gets there first!"
"Ahh, got it!" said the children.
"But there's a problem!" said Geoffrey, suddenly becoming sad. His red hat fell completely over his eyes. "We're still missing four participants for the race! Without them, we can't start. The teams must have eight children!"
Lori stepped forward. "We're four! We can participate!"
Geoffrey's eyes lit up. "Really? How wonderful!" And he did three spins in a row out of happiness.
But Eletta seemed a bit worried. "I've never used a sled..."
"Me neither," added Ale.
Geoffrey approached, swaying. "It doesn't matter if you're the best! What matters is doing your best and having fun!"
Viola took Eletta's hand. "Come on, let's try together!"
The four friends approached the hill. There were four sleds waiting for them. They were beautiful: red, green, blue, and yellow, all decorated with little bells that jingled.
Geoffrey explained the rules: "You have to go down the hill one at a time. It doesn't matter who gets there first! You just have to try to stay on the sled and get to the bottom. Every time you manage it, your team earns a point!"
"Sounds easy!" said Ale.
But when they looked at the hill more carefully, they saw it wasn't that simple. There were curves, small bumps, and at the end a big pile of soft snow where you had to stop.
Four other children from the park formed the other team. They all seemed very skilled and confident.
"Who's starting?" asked Geoffrey.
Lori raised his hand. "Me! I want to try first!"
He sat on the red sled and grabbed the rope to hold on. His heart was beating fast. He was a bit scared but also very excited.
"Ready?" asked Geoffrey.
"Ready!" replied Lori.
"Go!" shouted the pink penguin, doing a spin.
Lori pushed with his hands and the sled started going down. At first, it went slowly, then faster and faster! Lori felt the cold wind on his face and the snow spraying on the sides.
"Watch out for the curve!" shouted Viola from above.
Lori tried to turn the sled but it was difficult! The sled went straight and ended up off the track, in the soft snow. Lori rolled off the sled but he was fine. He was all covered in snow!
"Lori! Are you okay?" shouted his friends running down the hill.
Lori got up and shook off the snow. He looked sad. "I'm sorry... I couldn't finish the track. I made the team lose a point."
Geoffrey arrived swaying. "No way! You did your best! You tried with all your effort, that's what counts!"
Ale, Viola, and Eletta hugged Lori. "Did you see how fast you were going? You were great!" said Viola.
Now it was a child from the other team's turn. He went down perfectly and made it to the bottom. His team celebrated.
Then it was Viola's turn. She sat on the green sled, focused. She started and went down carefully. She reached the first curve and managed to turn! But at the second curve, the sled slid sideways and she also ended up in the snow.
"You did great!" Eletta told her, helping her get up.
The second child from the other team also finished the track. Now the other team had two points and they had zero.
It was Eletta's turn. She was very calm as always. She sat on the blue sled and started slowly. She wasn't going as fast as the others but tried to be careful. She reached the first curve, then the second... and then the end! She made it!
"Great job, Eletta!" everyone shouted. Even Geoffrey did five spins of happiness!
Now it was Ale's turn. He was very lively and wanted to go fast. He sat on the yellow sled and took off like a rocket! He was going too fast! At the first curve, the sled jumped over a bump and Ale flew off, landing in a big pile of snow. He got up laughing, all happy even though he hadn't made it to the bottom.
The other team had four points, theirs only one. It seemed impossible to win.
But Geoffrey said: "Now the second round! Who wants to try again?"
Lori looked at the hill. He was still scared from the first time. Maybe it was better to give up...
But then he looked at his friends. Ale was still laughing even though he had fallen. Eletta was smiling happily for having made it to the bottom. Viola's eyes were sparkling with eagerness to try again.
"I want to try again!" said Lori with a determined voice.
This time, when he sat on the sled, he took a deep breath. He didn't think about winning or losing. He just thought about doing his best. About being careful and trying with all his effort.
"Go!" shouted Geoffrey.
Lori started. This time he went a bit slower. When he reached the first curve, he turned the sled carefully. He did it! He kept going down. The second curve was harder but he concentrated. He turned... turned... and got past that one too! Then he reached the end and the sled stopped in the soft snow.
"HOORAY!" shouted Ale, Viola, and Eletta, running to him.
"You did it!" said Viola, hugging him.
"You did your best!" added Ale, jumping around him.
Lori felt happy inside. It didn't matter how many points his team had. He had tried with all his effort and he had done it!
The others tried again too. Viola made it to the bottom, Ale fell again but was laughing, and Eletta did a perfect run.
At the end of the race, the other team had won with more points. But Geoffrey said: "All of you were wonderful! You tried, you did your best, and that's what really counts! It doesn't matter who wins, what matters is the effort you put in!"
All the children celebrated together, playing in the snow and laughing.
Right then Toby the Magic Train arrived. "It's time to return, little adventurers, you've learned that sincere effort is what truly matters!"
The four friends climbed on the train, waving goodbye to Geoffrey, who did one last spin as a farewell.
When they passed through the shining cloud again, they found themselves back at Lori's house. Outside it was still raining, but their hearts were full of joy.
"It was wonderful!" said Lori. "At first I couldn't do it, but then I did my best and I made it!"
"Even though we didn't win the race, we had fun!" added Viola.
Christina, Lori's mom, came in with warm cookies. "How was the adventure?"
"Great!" they all answered together.
And that evening, Lori fell asleep happy, thinking that it doesn't matter if you're the best at everything. What matters is trying, putting in effort, and always doing your best. That's the real way to be proud of yourself.
