The Kangaroo Who Trembled Too Much
📅 Published on February 14, 2026
✨ Story Summary
The children travel by magic train to a jungle, where they help a scared kangaroo named Billy find his lost baby Tito during a storm.
It was a fresh February morning and a light wind made the leaves dance in the garden. Ale, Viola, Eletta, and Lori were preparing something special inside the house. On the table there were colorful masks, streamers, and many pieces of soft fabric.
"I want to be a lion!" said Ale, putting on an orange mask with a big mane made of yellow wool.
"And I want to be a butterfly!" exclaimed Eletta, with her blue paper wings attached to her back.
Viola was slipping into a red polka-dot dress. "I'm a ladybug!" she said with a determined voice, adjusting her antennae made of chenille.
Lori was already running around the room with a pirate mask. "Arrr! I'm looking for treasure!"
Max, Ale's dad, watched them smiling from the couch. "What a beautiful carnival! You all look wonderful."
Ale's four cats observed the scene with curiosity. Sofia, the black kitten, was sniffing the streamers. Dora, the brave tabby, was trying to catch the colorful ribbons. Poldo, nice and chubby, was dozing next to the radiator. And Milo, the most agile one, had jumped on top of a wardrobe to get a better view.
Suddenly, from outside came a sound that everyone knew well.
CHUFF CHUFF!
"The little train!" shouted Ale, and ran to the window.
There in the garden, among the bare winter bushes, Toby the Magic Train had appeared. It was all decorated with colorful garlands and balloons swaying in the wind.
The little train whistled cheerfully and said:
*"Hello children in disguise,*
*today you'll have a nice surprise!*
*Among the plants you will find,*
*a friend who needs your help so kind!"*
"Where are we going this time?" asked Viola, with her blue eyes full of curiosity.
But Toby didn't answer. He just gave another whistle and opened his little doors.
The four friends looked at each other, then jumped onto the train. Sofia, Dora, Poldo, and Milo also slipped inside, meowing excitedly.
Max waved from the window. "Have fun! And stay close together!"
The little train departed with a big puff of colored steam that smelled like cotton candy. The wheels turned faster and faster, and the landscape outside the windows began to change.
The bare trees became very tall, with enormous green leaves. The air became warm and humid. Giant flowers of all colors sprouted everywhere. Butterflies as big as plates flew among the branches.
"Ohhh!" went Eletta, with her eyes wide open.
They had arrived in a jungle! The jungle is a place with lots and lots of trees and plants that grow close together, where animals of all kinds live.
The sky above the leaves was blue, without even a single cloud. Rays of sunlight filtered through the branches, creating patches of golden light on the ground.
Toby stopped in a clearing and opened the doors.
*"In the jungle you have arrived,*
*with colorful costumes you're all revived!*
*A fear you will find today,*
*but together you'll chase it away!"*
The children got off the train. The cats followed them, sniffing the strange air of this new place.
"How beautiful!" said Lori, running toward a red flower as big as an umbrella.
"Wait!" Viola called him back. "We don't know what's here!"
Ale looked around. With his lion mask on, he felt brave. "Let's go explore!" he suggested.
They walked among the giant plants. Dora, the fearless cat, led the way. Milo jumped from branch to branch. Sofia stayed close to Ale, and Poldo trotted a bit behind, puffing because of the heat.
After a while, they heard a strange noise.
THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
Something was hopping toward them.
The children stopped. Eletta hid behind Ale. Viola clenched her fists, ready for anything. Lori took off his pirate mask to see better.
From behind an enormous bush, a very peculiar creature appeared.
It was a kangaroo! But not a normal kangaroo. It had light brown fur and was wearing a carnival mask, all crooked, decorated with colorful feathers. And it smelled... like cotton candy!
"H-hello," said the kangaroo in a trembling voice. "My name is Billy."
A kangaroo is an animal that has very strong back legs and hops instead of walking. It also has a pocket on its belly, called a pouch, where it carries its babies.
"Hello Billy!" said Ale, coming closer. "Why are you trembling?"
Billy looked around with big, worried eyes. "I'm very... hesitant."
The children looked at each other, confused.
"What does hesitant mean?" asked Viola, tilting her head.
Billy made a small nervous jump. "It means I don't know what to do, that I'm afraid to choose. I'm hesitant because... because..."
A tear rolled down his furry face.
"I've lost my baby! His name is Tito, and he was in my pouch. But while I was hopping, I got scared by a loud noise, I made a crooked jump, and he fell out! Now I can't find him!"
"Oh no!" exclaimed Eletta, putting her hands on her cheeks.
"We'll help you!" said Ale right away.
Billy shook his head. "But the jungle is big, and I... I'm afraid of everything. I'm afraid of noises, I'm afraid of the dark, I'm afraid of tall trees. That's why I'm hesitant, I can't bring myself to search for him!"
Viola approached the kangaroo and looked him straight in the eyes. "I get scared sometimes too. But when I have to do something important, I look fear in the face. And then I do it anyway."
"Really?" asked Billy.
"Really," confirmed Ale. "And we'll help you. Together!"
They started searching. Billy pointed out where he had been hopping before losing Tito. They walked among giant ferns and fragrant flowers.
"Tito! Titooo!" the children called.
But no one answered.
The sun began to go down. The golden light turned orange, then purple. The children were worried.
"It's getting to be evening," said Eletta, with a tired voice.
And then, something bad happened.
A strong wind came suddenly. The big leaves of the trees shook. The sky filled with dark clouds that weren't there before.
CRACK!
A branch fell near them.
"How scary!" shouted Lori.
Billy was trembling so hard that his legs were thumping on the ground. "It's a jungle storm! It comes suddenly! We need to find shelter!"
But where? They were in the middle of the plants, without any shelter.
"Let's build something!" said Ale.
Viola looked around. "There! Those big branches that fell! We can put them together!"
The children ran toward a group of branches. They were heavy, but working together they managed to lift them. Ale and Lori held the branches upright. Viola and Eletta gathered enormous leaves to make a roof.
Billy watched them, still trembling.
"Help us too!" said Ale. "You're strong, you can hold that big branch!"
The kangaroo hesitated. He was afraid. But then he saw the children working hard, not giving up.
He took a deep breath and hopped toward them. With his strong legs, he held the heaviest branch of all.
"I can do it!" he said, surprised.
Just as they finished the shelter, it began to rain. Drops as big as marbles fell from the sky.
The children, the cats, and Billy took shelter under the leaf roof they had built. It was tight, but they were all together and safe.
The rain beat down hard, but they were dry.
"How clever we were!" said Eletta, smiling.
Then, in the sound of the rain, they heard something.
"Mommy? Mommy!"
It was a tiny voice coming from nearby.
Billy perked up his ears. "It's Tito! It's Tito's voice!"
The kangaroo wanted to go out to look for him, but the rain was very heavy.
"I'm scared," said Billy. "What if I get lost too?"
Ale stood up and put a hand on the kangaroo's paw. "We'll come with you. You look fears in the face, and you overcome them. Together."
Billy looked at that brave boy with the lion mask, and something changed inside him. He wasn't alone anymore.
"Let's go," said the kangaroo.
They went out into the rain. Dora and Milo ran ahead, following the sound of the little voice. Sofia stayed close to Ale to protect him. Poldo, even though he didn't like water, followed them anyway.
"Mommy!" The voice was coming from under a big leaf.
Billy hopped toward that spot. And there, curled up under the leaf like under a green umbrella, was a small baby kangaroo with fur all wet.
"Tito!" shouted Billy.
"Mommy!" The baby jumped toward his pouch and slipped inside.
Billy was crying, but this time they were tears of joy. He held the pouch tight with his baby inside.
"Thank you! Thank you all!"
The rain began to stop. And as the clouds parted, the evening sky filled with something magical.
Little lights began to turn on everywhere. They were fireflies! Fireflies are insects that have bellies that glow in the dark, like little flying lanterns.
Hundreds of fireflies danced among the trees, lighting up the jungle like a sky full of stars.
"How wonderful!" whispered Viola.
The children watched, enchanted. Billy was smiling too.
"I'm not afraid of the dark anymore," said the kangaroo, watching the fireflies. "Because now I know that even in the dark you can find light."
CHUFF CHUFF!
Toby the Magic Train arrived among the trees, all lit up by the fireflies flying around him.
"Do you have to go back?" asked Billy, a little sad.
"Yes," said Ale. "But we'll never forget you!"
Billy took off his carnival mask, the crooked one with the colorful feathers, and gave it to Ale. "Here. To thank you for teaching me to be brave."
Ale took it and smiled big. "Thank you, Billy!"
The children got on the train with the cats. They waved goodbye to Billy and little Tito who was peeking out from the pouch.
Toby whistled and departed, saying:
*"You faced your fear today,*
*and saved a baby along the way!*
*Remember this lesson so true:*
*together there's nothing you can't do!"*
The little train traveled among the glowing fireflies, crossed through the jungle, and brought the children back to the garden at home.
Max was waiting for them at the window, still smiling.
The children got off the train, still wearing their carnival costumes, but now also with one special extra mask.
"How did it go?" asked Max.
Ale showed Billy's mask. "It was an amazing adventure! We helped a kangaroo find his baby!"
That evening, while Grace held him in her arms before bedtime, Ale told her everything.
"And do you know what I learned, Mommy?" he said, clutching the colorful mask.
"What, my love?"
"That fears are less scary if you look them in the face. And if you have friends with you, you can do anything."
Grace hugged him tight. "What a brave boy you are."
And Ale fell asleep, dreaming of fireflies, hopping kangaroos, and adventures in the jungle.
