The Gift of Time Together

The Gift of Time Together

✨ Story Summary

The children travel by magic train to a colorful village where they befriend Tito, a lonely wooden puppet, teaching him that spending time together is better than making loud noises for attention.

It was a late summer afternoon. The sun was shining high in the sky, but it wasn't too hot because a gentle breeze was caressing the cheeks of the four friends. In Dash's garden, the children were doing something very fun: they were building a fort with old sheets and soft cushions.

"I'll put this cushion here!" said Dash, running very fast from one side of the garden to the other. He was always like that: fast as a rocket, he never stood still.

"Wait Dash, can you help me hold the sheet?" asked Ellie with her quiet little voice. She was tall and thin, and was holding a corner of the white sheet with her small hands.

"Coming!" replied Dash, but he tripped over a cushion and fell onto the soft grass. Everyone laughed, including him.

Jack was jumping all around the fort, with his usual big smile. "Look, it's beautiful! It looks like a real house!"

Skye, with her blue eyes that sparkled like the sea, put her hands on her hips. "But something's missing. We need a flag on top!"

Dad Mike, Dash's father, was watching them from the kitchen window. "Be careful not to hurt yourselves with those sticks!" he said, a bit worried as always.

Right at that moment, a strange sound came from the back of the garden.

"CHUFF CHUFF!"

The four children stopped. They knew that sound well!

"It's Toby!" shouted Jack, jumping with joy.

And indeed, among the rose bushes and colorful flowers, a small and shiny little train appeared. It was Toby the Magic Train, with his blue smoke coming out of the chimney and his wheels turning happily.

Toby stopped in front of the children and said with his cheerful voice:

"Hello children, what a lovely peaceful day,
today I'll take you where your hearts will want to stay!
A village awaits us down below,
with a special friend you'll get to know!"

"Where are we going?" asked Skye, always curious.

But Toby whistled and opened his colorful little doors. The children climbed aboard quickly, sitting on seats as soft as clouds. The little train set off, crossing through the garden and then, as if by magic, lifting off the ground!

They flew over houses, over trees, over fields. The sky was beautiful: it was full of small white clouds, all close together.

"Look at the clouds!" said Ellie pointing up. "They look like little sheep!"

"That's true!" said Dash laughing. "Like a flock of sheep in the sky! How funny!"

After a while, Toby began to descend. Below them appeared a small village. The houses were painted yellow, orange and light blue, with red roofs. The streets were made of small round stones, called cobblestones, that looked like gray chocolates.

The little train landed gently in a small square with a fountain in the center. The water was splashing happily and made a relaxing sound.

"Here we are!" said Toby. "Explore and have fun, but remember: help those in need!"

The children got off the train and looked around. The village seemed empty. The windows were closed and no one could be seen.

"How strange," said Skye frowning. "Where is everyone?"

Suddenly, a very loud noise came from behind a yellow house.

"BANG! CRASH! THUMP!"

Ellie jumped and moved closer to Dash. Jack also stopped jumping and looked toward the noise with wide eyes.

Then, from around the corner, a strange figure appeared. He was as tall as a child, but he was made entirely of wood! He had wooden arms and legs, a wooden body, and a round head with two painted eyes and a long nose. He wore a pointed cap with a little silver bell attached that went "ding ding" when he moved.

He was a puppet! A puppet is like a doll, but made of wood, with arms and legs that move thanks to special hinges.

"Hee-hee-hee!" laughed the puppet with a high, squeaky little voice. He walked with a bouncing step, as if he was always dancing. He smelled of fresh wood, like pine trees in the forest.

"BANG!" Another very loud noise made the children tremble.

Jack jumped backward and started trembling all over. His little legs were shaking, his little hands were shaking, even his cheeks were shaking!

"I'm scared!" said Jack with a trembling voice. "That noise is too loud!"

Dash looked at his friend. He didn't like seeing Jack so frightened. Usually Jack was always cheerful and smiling!

"Don't be afraid," said Dash moving closer to Jack. "We're here with you."

The puppet came bouncing over. "Hee-hee-hee! My name is Tito! I'm the one making the noises! It's so much fun!"

Tito ran toward a row of tin buckets and knocked them all down with a kick. "CRASH BANG THUMP!"

Jack covered his ears and curled up on the ground. A tear rolled down his cheek.

"Stop it!" said Skye with a loud and firm voice, standing in front of Jack like a shield. Her blue eyes were serious. "You're making our friend cry!"

Tito stopped suddenly. His painted smile seemed less cheerful. "But... but I just wanted to play..."

Dash had an idea. He ran to Jack and hugged him tight. "Jack, listen. Tito didn't mean to scare you. He was just playing, but he didn't know that loud noises frighten you."

"R-really?" sobbed Jack.

"Yes!" said Ellie, bending down next to him in her calm and gentle way. "Look at Tito. He's a puppet. He can't hurt you."

Jack looked up. Tito was standing still, with his cap crooked and his little bell no longer ringing.

"I'm sorry," said Tito with a sad voice. "I didn't know you were afraid. I don't have any friends to play with, so I play pranks. But it's not fun if someone cries..."

Dash stood up and walked toward Tito. "Why don't you have any friends?"

Tito lowered his wooden head. "The villagers hide when I arrive. They think I'm mean because I make too much noise. But I feel so lonely..."

Jack wiped his tears and stood up. He was still a bit shaky, but his heart was kind. "I feel lonely sometimes too," he said softly. "But then my friends come and I feel better."

Skye had an idea. "Tito, maybe you make so much noise because you want someone to notice you?"

Tito nodded. "Hee-hee-hee... I mean, yes. When I make noises, at least someone comes out to see what's happening."

"But that way you scare them!" said Ellie.

"I know..." Tito looked very sad. "But I don't know how to do anything else."

Dash felt strange inside. He looked at Tito and thought about all the times he himself ran super fast to make others laugh. Sometimes he did dangerous things and his dad Dad Mike would worry. But he did it because he wanted others to have fun with him.

"I understand you," said Dash. "I sometimes do things without thinking too. But I learned something important."

"What?" asked Tito, raising his head.

"That the best way to have friends isn't to do crazy things. It's to spend time together, calmly."

Skye smiled. "Dash is right! Instead of making noise, you could play with someone!"

"But... no one wants to play with me," said Tito.

"We do!" said Jack, giving a small smile. He was already forgetting his fear. "Let's play together!"

Tito opened his painted eyes wide. "Really? You want to play with me?"

"Of course!" all four said together.

And so, in the village square, the children and Tito started playing. Not making loud noises, but doing calm and nice things. Tito taught them a funny dance, moving his wooden legs in a strange way. Jack laughed and tried to copy him. Skye and Tito made funny faces. Ellie picked some flowers and put one in Tito's cap.

After a while, the doors of the village houses opened. The inhabitants, who were small people with rosy cheeks, came out to see what was happening. They didn't hear loud noises, but laughter!

"Tito is... playing?" said a lady with a flowered apron.

"And he's not breaking anything!" said a man with a white mustache.

Soon, other children from the village came closer. They were shy at first, but then they started playing too.

Tito had never smiled so much. His painted smile seemed to glow with its own light.

"Thank you," said Tito to the four friends. "I didn't know that spending time together was so wonderful. Better than all the noises in the world!"

Dash felt happy. He had helped a new friend. And he had also helped Jack not to be afraid anymore.

"Tito," said Dash, "will you promise something?"

"What?"

"Promise that when someone in the village needs help, you'll help them? Instead of playing pranks, you'll be a true friend?"

Tito put his wooden hand on his heart. "I promise! From now on, I'll use my energy to help, not to scare!"

The villagers applauded. Tito's little bell rang happily too: "Ding ding ding!"

At that moment, a familiar sound came from the square.

"CHUFF CHUFF!"

Toby the Magic Train was back! He stopped near the fountain and said:

"What a lovely day you've had today,
a new friend you've found along the way!
Time together is a treasure of love,
the most beautiful gift from above!"

The children said goodbye to Tito with big hugs. Jack hugged him too, without fear.

"Come back to visit me!" said Tito, bouncing happily.

"We promise!" said Dash.

They all climbed aboard the magic train. Toby whistled and flew up, crossing the sky with the sheep-like clouds.

When they arrived in Dash's garden, the sun was setting. The colors of the sky were orange and pink, beautiful.

Dad Mike ran out of the house. "There you are! Where have you been?"

"We had an adventure, Dad!" said Dash hugging him. "And we helped a friend!"

That evening, before going to sleep, Dash thought about Tito and the village. He had understood something important, something he would remember forever.

**The moral of this story:**

The most precious gift we can give someone isn't a toy, it isn't loud noises to get noticed, and it's not even the strangest things in the world. The most beautiful gift is time spent together. When we play with a friend, when we listen to them, when we hug them if they're scared... that is the true treasure. Tito was lonely because no one spent time with him. But when the children played together with him, he became happy. Always remember: the time you spend with the people you love is the most precious gift there is!
