Skye and the Jumping Frog in the Christmas River
📅 Published on December 19, 2025
✨ Story Summary
The children travel to a magical Christmas river where they help a six-legged, three-eyed frog reach a golden bell to save Christmas joy.
Skye was sitting on the soft grass with her friends. The sun was warm and nice. Lily was making a daisy chain. Ziggy was jumping like a frog. Dash was running in circles.
"Look at my flowers!" said Lily, showing her pretty chain.
"Ribbit! Ribbit!" went Ziggy, hopping around.
Suddenly they heard a familiar sound. CHUFF CHUFF! TOOT TOOT!
"It's Toby!" shouted Dash.
The shiny red train stopped in front of them. Steam went WHOOSH from his chimney.
"Hello children, what a day!
Come aboard, we'll go and play!
Where water sparkles, cold and bright,
And Christmas bells ring day and night!"
"Yay!" the children cheered. They climbed on quickly. Skye sat by the window. She loved watching the world go by.
CHUGGA CHUGGA CHUGGA! The train went faster and faster. The trees became a green blur. Then everything turned white and sparkly!
"Snow!" gasped Skye, pressing her nose to the window.
But it wasn't snow. It was magical frost that twinkled like diamonds. The train slowed down near a beautiful river. The water was crystal clear and had tiny lights dancing on top, like Christmas stars.
"Wow!" said all four children together.
They jumped off the train onto soft, white sand. The river made a gentle SPLASH SPLASH sound. Christmas music played softly in the air, coming from nowhere and everywhere at once.
"Look!" Skye pointed. There were candy canes growing like reeds by the water! Red and white stripes twisted up from the ground.
Ziggy ran to touch one. "It's real candy!"
Suddenly, they heard crying. "Waaaaah! Waaaah!"
The children looked around. On a rock in the middle of the river sat something very strange. It was a frog, but not like any frog they'd seen before! This frog had THREE eyes - two green ones and one blue one on its forehead. It had SIX legs instead of four, and a long, curly tail like a pig's!
"Help me! Help me!" cried the frog. Its voice was high and squeaky.
"What's wrong?" asked Skye kindly. She wasn't scared at all.
"I'm Bingo the Christmas Frog! Every year, I must jump to the Golden Bell on the other side of the river. When I ring it, Christmas joy spreads everywhere! But look!" The frog pointed with one of its six legs.
The children gasped. The river had ICE patches floating in it! Some were big, some were tiny. They moved and bumped into each other. CLINK CLINK went the ice.
"I can't jump across!" Bingo cried. "The ice moves too much! If I fall in the cold water, I'll freeze! And without the bell ringing, Christmas spirit will fade away!"
Skye felt worried. This was serious! She looked at her friends.
"We have to help!" said Lily firmly.
But how? The river was too wide to throw Bingo across. The ice patches kept moving. SWOOSH went the water. BUMP went the ice.
"Wait!" said Dash. "I have an idea! What if we make a path?"
"But the ice moves," said Ziggy, frowning.
Skye walked to the river edge. She watched carefully. The ice did move, but she noticed something. "Look!" she said quietly. "Some pieces move together, like they're friends!"
She was right! Some ice patches seemed connected by invisible strings. When one moved left, another moved left too.
"Maybe we can predict where they'll go!" said Lily.
Bingo jumped up and down on his rock. "But I'm scared! So scared!"
Skye knew what it felt like to be scared. Sometimes at night, she felt scared of the dark. But her daddy Jack always said being brave meant doing something even when you're scared.
"Bingo," Skye said softly, "we'll help you. Don't worry."
The children studied the ice. Dash noticed that every time a big fish swam under, it made ripples. The ripples pushed the ice in patterns.
"There!" Ziggy pointed. A silver fish was swimming in circles. Every time it went around, three ice patches lined up perfectly for just a moment.
"But that's only three patches," said Lily. "Bingo needs at least five to get across!"
They were stuck. The wind started to blow. WHOOOOO! It was getting colder. Bingo shivered on his rock.
Then Skye had an idea. "The candy canes!" she said. "What if we put them in the water? Maybe they'll float!"
The children grabbed candy canes. They threw them in the water. SPLASH! But oh no! The candy canes sank straight down!
"It's not working!" cried Dash.
Bingo started crying again. "I'll never make it! Christmas will be ruined!"
Skye felt tears in her own eyes. She didn't want Christmas to be sad! She thought of all the children waiting for Christmas joy.
Then she heard something. JINGLE JINGLE! Tiny bells! She looked up and saw something magical. Snowflakes were falling, but these weren't normal snowflakes. They were shaped like little sleds!
"Magic snow sleds!" gasped Lily.
The sled-flakes landed on the water and... they floated! They were small but strong. Each one could hold something light.
"Bingo!" shouted Skye. "Can you jump on these?"
Bingo's three eyes went wide. "Maybe... but they're so small!"
The children worked fast. They caught sled-flakes and placed them between the ice patches. It was hard work! The wind kept blowing them away. WHOOSH!
"Hold them, Ziggy!" said Skye.
Ziggy lay on his tummy and held one in place. Dash held another. Lily held a third.
"Now Bingo!" called Skye. "Jump when the fish makes the ice line up!"
Bingo was shaking. "I'm scared!"
"You can do it!" all four children shouted together. "Be brave!"
The silver fish started swimming. Round and round. The ice patches started moving. One... two... three... they lined up!
"NOW!" screamed Skye.
Bingo closed his three eyes and JUMPED!
BOING! He landed on the first ice patch.
BOING! Onto Ziggy's sled-flake.
BOING! The second ice patch.
BOING! Lily's sled-flake.
But then disaster! The wind blew hard! WHOOOOSH! Dash's sled-flake flew away!
"Oh no!" cried Dash.
Bingo was stuck! He couldn't go forward or back! The ice patch under him started to crack. CRACK CRACK!
"Jump to me!" shouted Skye. She had run along the riverbank. She stretched her arms out over the water as far as she could.
Bingo gathered all his courage. With his six powerful legs, he made the biggest jump of his life! SUPER BOING!
He flew through the air... and landed right in Skye's arms!
"You did it!" she laughed, hugging the magical frog.
But they weren't at the Golden Bell yet. It was on a small island just a bit further.
"I can't jump anymore," panted Bingo. "I'm too tired!"
Skye looked around. Then she saw it - a log floating by! "Everyone, help!"
The four children grabbed long candy canes and used them like hooks. They pulled the log to shore. Working together, they pushed it back in the water like a boat.
"Climb on, Bingo!" said Skye.
All five of them carefully got on the log. Using candy canes as paddles, they pushed across the last bit of water. SPLASH SPLASH went their candy cane oars.
Finally, they reached the island! There stood the Golden Bell, tall and beautiful. It sparkled in the light.
"Ring it, Bingo!" cheered the children.
Bingo jumped up with his last bit of energy. BOING! He grabbed the bell rope with his tail and pulled.
DONG! DONG! DONG!
The sound was magical! It wasn't just loud - it was warm and happy. Golden sparkles flew from the bell and spread across the sky like fireworks. POP! SPARKLE! SHINE!
Suddenly, the river lit up with thousands of tiny Christmas lights! The candy canes started singing carols! Even the ice patches danced in celebration!
"We did it!" laughed Skye. "We saved Christmas joy!"
Bingo was crying happy tears from all three eyes. "Thank you, brave children! You're my heroes!"
CHUFF CHUFF! Toby appeared on the other shore.
"Well done, children, brave and true!
Christmas joy lives thanks to you!
Time to go back home to play,
You've been heroes here today!"
The ice patches suddenly formed a perfect bridge. The children and Bingo walked safely across. They hugged Bingo goodbye.
"Visit us next Christmas!" called Skye as they climbed aboard Toby.
"I will! I will!" promised Bingo, waving all six legs.
The train chugged home. CHUGGA CHUGGA! Skye felt tired but happy. She had been brave when it mattered.
Soon they were back in their garden. The sun was setting, making the sky pink and orange.
"That was the best adventure!" said Skye sleepily.
Her friends agreed. They had saved Christmas together!
**The Moral:**
Being brave doesn't mean you're not scared. It means doing the right thing even when you are scared. When Skye saw that Bingo needed help, she was brave and kind. She used her brain to solve problems and worked with her friends. Remember, you can be brave too, even when things seem scary. And when friends work together, they can do amazing things!
