Dash and the Sparkly Dragonfly at Christmas Lake
📅 Published on December 12, 2025
✨ Story Summary
The children travel to Christmas Lake where underwater lights help Santa navigate, and they help a sparkly dragonfly recover scattered magic dust to keep the lights glowing.
Dash was zooming around the garden with his toy car. "Vrooom! Beep beep!" he shouted as he raced past Lily, Ziggy, and Skye.
"My turn! My turn!" said Lily, reaching for the car.
"Me too!" giggled Ziggy, jumping up and down.
Skye sat quietly on the grass, watching a butterfly flutter by. "Pretty," she whispered.
Suddenly, they heard a familiar sound. "CIUFFFF CIUFFFF!"
The magical train rolled into view, its bright colors sparkling in the sunlight. Toby the Magic Train smiled at them.
"Hello children, hop aboard today,
Where ice meets stars in a special way!
Christmas bells and water blue,
A sparkly friend is waiting for you!"
"Yay! Toby!" cheered Dash, running fast to the train.
All four friends climbed aboard. The train went "CIUFFFF CIUFFFF" and started moving. The world around them became blurry, then sparkly, then suddenly...
They were at the edge of a huge frozen lake! But this wasn't just any lake. The ice was clear like glass, and underneath they could see Christmas lights twinkling in the water. Red, green, gold, and silver lights danced beneath the surface.
"Wow!" said Dash, his eyes wide.
"Cold!" said Skye, hugging herself.
But strangely, it wasn't cold at all. The air felt warm and cozy, like sitting by a fireplace.
"Look!" pointed Lily. "Stars!"
Above them, the sky was dark blue, but thousands of stars twinkled extra bright. Some stars even seemed to be falling slowly, like snowflakes made of light.
BUZZZZZ!
A giant dragonfly appeared, as big as Dash himself! Its body sparkled with silver glitter, and its wings were see-through with rainbow colors. It had four wings that made a soft humming sound.
"Help me, help me, please!" said the dragonfly in a tinkling voice. "I'm Sparkle, and I need your help!"
"What's wrong?" asked Dash bravely, stepping forward.
"My magic dust is scattered! Without it, Christmas Lake will lose its lights. The fish below need the lights to see. They're getting scared in the dark!"
Dash looked at his friends. "We help?"
"Yes!" said Lily firmly.
"But where is dust?" asked Ziggy, looking around.
Sparkle's antennae drooped. "When the North Wind came - WHOOOOSH - it blew my dust everywhere! Some stuck to the ice flowers, some flew to the singing stones, and some... some went into the upside-down waterfall!"
"Upside-down?" asked Skye softly.
Sparkle nodded and pointed across the lake. There, water was flowing UP from the ice into the sky!
"We find it!" said Dash. "Fast fast!"
They started walking on the ice. It wasn't slippery at all - it felt soft like carpet under their feet. As they walked, their footsteps made little bell sounds: "ting, ting, ting!"
First, they found the ice flowers. They were growing right out of the frozen lake, made entirely of ice but shaped like roses and daisies. Each petal had tiny bits of silver dust on it.
"How we get dust?" asked Lily, reaching up. The flowers were too tall.
Dash had an idea. "We sing! Sparkle hums, maybe flowers like music?"
They all started singing their favorite song: "Twinkle, twinkle, little star..."
The ice flowers began to sway! As they moved, the magic dust sprinkled down like glitter rain. Sparkle flew in circles, catching it all on her wings.
"One part found!" she cheered.
Next, they heard strange sounds: "Dong... bing... plong..."
"Singing stones!" said Ziggy, running ahead.
They found seven rocks arranged in a circle. Each one was a different color and made a different sound when the wind touched it. But the magic dust was inside the stones!
"Oh no," said Skye quietly. "How get out?"
Dash noticed something. When he stepped near a red stone, it went "DONG!" louder. When Lily touched a blue stone, it went "BING!"
"We make music!" said Dash. "All together!"
Each child stood by a stone. Even little Skye found a yellow stone that went "ping!" softly.
"One, two, three!" counted Dash.
They all touched their stones at the same time. The stones sang a beautiful melody, and as they did, they opened like flowers! Inside each one was sparkly silver dust.
Sparkle gathered this dust too, her wings now glowing brighter.
"Last part!" she said. "The upside-down waterfall!"
They walked to where water was flowing up into the sky. It made a backwards "SHHHHHWOOOO" sound. High above, the water turned into clouds shaped like Christmas trees.
"Dust up there," pointed Sparkle to the very top of the waterfall.
"Too high!" said Lily, frowning.
But then Dash noticed something. There were floating ice bubbles rising from the lake. They were big and strong, like balloons made of ice.
"We ride bubbles!" he said excitedly.
"Scary," whispered Skye.
"Together," said Ziggy, taking her hand. "We brave!"
One by one, they each stepped into a bubble. The bubbles were warm inside and smelled like candy canes. Slowly, they began to float up alongside the upside-down waterfall.
"Wheee!" laughed Dash as his bubble spun gently.
Up, up, up they went. The ground looked far away, but the bubbles were safe and cozy.
At the top, they could see the magic dust swirling in the water-clouds. But how to get it?
"Pop bubbles?" suggested Lily.
"No!" said Sparkle. "You'd fall!"
Then Skye, quiet little Skye, had an idea. She pulled something from her pocket - a candy cane from earlier!
"Sweet," she said. "Dust likes sweet?"
She held out the candy cane. The magic dust started swirling toward it, sticking to the sweet treat like metal to a magnet!
"Smart Skye!" cheered Dash.
All the dust gathered on the candy cane. Sparkle flew up and collected the last of her magic dust.
The bubbles gently floated them back down. "Pop!" went each bubble softly as they touched the ice, and the children stepped out safely.
Sparkle was now glowing bright silver, her wings sparkling like diamonds. "Watch this!" she said.
She flew over Christmas Lake and shook her wings. Magic dust fell like snow onto the water. Suddenly, all the lights under the ice blazed bright! Red, green, gold, silver - the whole lake lit up like the biggest Christmas tree ever!
Under the ice, they could see fish swimming happily. The fish were all different colors, and they swam in patterns that looked like they were dancing. Some even jumped out of the water, splashing back down with happy "splash" sounds!
"Thank you, brave children!" said Sparkle. "You saved Christmas Lake! Every year, the lights here help Santa see when he flies over on Christmas Eve. Without you, he might get lost!"
"Really?" gasped Dash. "Santa?"
"Really truly!" laughed Sparkle. "And look!"
She touched each child gently with her antenna. Suddenly, they each had a tiny bit of silver sparkle on their noses that wouldn't come off.
"Magic mark," said Sparkle. "Shows you're helpers of Christmas Lake. It will glow on Christmas Eve!"
"CIUFFFF CIUFFFF!"
Toby the Magic Train had returned.
"Time to go home, my friends so brave,
You helped the lights that Santa craves!
With teamwork strong and hearts so true,
Christmas Lake now shines thanks to you!"
They hugged Sparkle goodbye and climbed aboard Toby. As the train chugged away, they watched Christmas Lake twinkle and shine behind them.
Soon they were back in the garden. The sun was setting, making the sky pink and orange.
"We did it!" said Dash, still excited.
"Together!" added Lily.
"Sparkly nose!" giggled Ziggy, trying to see his own nose.
"Home now," yawned Skye.
They looked at each other's noses - each one had a tiny sparkle that caught the light.
"Our adventure!" said Dash. "Best day!"
And they all agreed, already excited for when Toby the Magic Train would return for another magical adventure.
THE END
**The Lesson:** When friends work together and each person shares their ideas - even the quietest ones - they can solve any problem. Dash was brave to lead, Lily was strong, Ziggy was encouraging, and quiet Skye had the best idea of all. Everyone is important in a team, no matter how big or small, loud or quiet they are. And helping others, like they helped Sparkle save the Christmas lights for the fish, makes the world a brighter place for everyone.
